Husbands & Fathers, Joy-filled Limitations, and Small Beginnings: Quotes from My Current Reading Material {February Edition}
“What you are searching for…is a woman who is submissive to God Himself, to His holy Scriptures, and then to the way that God made the world, and then last, as a consequence of all the preceding, to you.” –Doug Wilson, “The Value of Gender Stereotypes“ (I also sent Doug Wilson a letter in response to a different article in the same series. Here’s his response to my letter.) “I don’t want to rehash years-long arguments, but it’s worth noting that stoicism, competitiveness, and even aggression can be virtues. They are not inherent vices. Each can be toxic in the wrong context. Each can be dispensible in the right time…

My Complete 2021 Book List
Introduction This blog post contains a complete list of all the books I read in 2021. I finished all the books I began reading this year except for two for various reasons, which I listed next to them on my book list. This brings me to a total of 32 books read this year. I began this post at the beginning of the year so that I could post it at the end of the year; however, I decided that I just can’t wait that long. I enjoy learning what other people are reading, and I thought you might too, especially during the summer months when things move at a slower pace. I love swinging in a hammock, reading a book, and listening to the birds chatter in the trees. The following is a complete list of books I’ve read so far this year. I added in a few interesting notes about some of the books. As you will see, my reading list has…

Reading and Remembering with The Wingfeather Saga {April Edition}
Welcome to April’s edition of “Reading and Remembering.” (Formerly called “Quotes from our Current Reading Material.”) This month I included a book Ruthie’s been enjoying, a book I’m reading out loud to Samuel, my current reading material, and our Family Worship hymn and Bible verse (under “Remembering,” as we’re committing them to memory). I highlighted The Wingfeather Saga in this edition’s title–I’m through book one and onto book two, and I can’t put them down. This is my second time reading the series and they’re just as wonderful as I remember. You can buy them here, at the Rabbit Room store. Reading We’re going on a bear hunt.We’re going to…

The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self
Have you ever wondered how we got here, to this new world where people can define who they are by simply thinking so? How did the fetters of society falter to create a world where people can do just about anything and be applauded for it? Where do we go from here, especially as Christians, living in this strange time of seemingly sudden and radical change? Carl Trueman answers these questions, and many more, in his book The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self. Trueman begins the book by tracing our current thought patterns all the way back to the 1600s. He explains how philosophers and artists, such as…
