7 Good Mental Health Habits to Continue in 2023
I love making New Year’s resolutions. (Here’s a list of my past New Year’s resolutions: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). This year, however, I decided to set the goal of continuing some good mental health habits I started in 2022. The first group of my good mental health habits concerns food. I’ve posted a lot about my struggles with overeating, and I continue to fight against that sin in my life. Overeating, for me, is a spiritual issue. I understand the ideas behind methods such as intuitive eating, intermittent fasting, and diets like keto and paleo. None of this matters, however, if I choose to continue to eat foods I shouldn’t…

Intuitive Eating, Intuitive Living, and My God-given Limitations
As I’ve written about here at Teacher by Nature before, overeating is a struggle for me. What I’ve found the most challenging about getting my eating habits under control and honoring to God is the fact that I cannot stop eating. Those who find themselves enslaved to alcohol can simply (yet not easily) stop drinking alcohol. Alcohol is not necessary to human survival. Food, however, is. I cannot stop eating or, more specifically, I cannot stop consuming calories and nutrients. Both are good and necessary for life and the proper functioning of my body. I grew up in a very health-conscious family. My parents taught me the difference between nutritious…

Exercising Post-Grave’s Disease: Why Are My Legs So Tired?!
Let’s talk about my recent health history. In December, the day before Christmas Eve, I woke up around 4am with a runny nose. My runny nose turned into something that felt like heartburn. That something that felt like heartburn turned into a really weird dizzy spell as I was walking down the stairs. You’ve probably already guessed the conclusion to this story: I had covid-19. Covid-19 caused my autoimmune thyroid disorder, Grave’s Disease, to flare up. One afternoon shortly after my quarantine ended, I went hiking with my family through the snow at a local state park. I tried to walk up a steep hill I could normally handle, and…

New Year, New Goals, and A Song about Hagar {New Music Monday}
I set a few goals for myself this year! Here they are: I’d like to post something new here on Mondays and Thursdays. I’ve been posting twice a week on and off for a while, but typically not on the same days. I’d like to provide you, my dear readers, with more consistency, and also myself. This might mean I’ll post shorter instead of longer articles, and I might also end up posting more personal updates because I’ll be writing “on the fly” more often. I’m excited to see what I come up with! If you’d like me to write an article about something particular, would you let me know?…

A Tour of Our New House, and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, dear friends and family! As you might guess, our big update this year is that we moved back to the area in which I grew up. I would, however, like to give you a personal update about each of us. I’ll go first! I started writing a lot this year. Much of my inspiration to write came from participating in The Habit, but I also had more time to write once everything went into lockdown mode in March. I’m so thankful for all of you reading and listening to the articles, poems, and music I post! When I started this blog, I hoped to build a small community…
