Follow the Sound Words

Most Saturday evenings, we have a few friends over for dinner, a Bible study, and games. For our Bible study, we are going through the Westminster Shorter Catechism. Today we are studying question three: “What do the Scriptures principally teach?” and the answer: “The Scriptures principally teach what man is to believe concerning God, and what duty God requires of man.” The verse that goes along with this Q&A is 2 Timothy 1:13, which says,

Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

I like this simple reminder to do as the Bible commands–what God commands!–all the while loving Jesus and having faith in Him. The Bible gives us everything we need to follow the Lord. The Bible tells us how sinful we are and how holy God is. The Bible proclaims that we can be made right with God through Jesus. The Bible reminds us that when we follow Him, He will be with us always, to the very end of the age. What blessing to have the words of God, the forgiveness found in Jesus, and the comfort of the Holy Spirit!
If you haven’t done so already today, I encourage you to go read your Bible! 🙂
