He Does All Things Well

The ideas behind this poem come from 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (a popular benediction) and Psalm 42:4-5. I quote a few lines directly from both passages, and then try to summarize a couple of the main points.

I put these two passages together on purpose. God sanctifies us through our suffering. Though He may hide his face for a little while, He promises to be with us no matter what comes our way. I hope that hearing these two passages together encourages you as you face whatever trials are before you. Lean on Jesus as your strong support, and trust the Holy Spirit to refresh your heart. He will surely do it!

The Music

He Does All Things Well

He Does All Things Well

He will do it;
He will surely do it,
He does all things well.

Now may the God of peace sanctify you;
May you be wholly his,
Spirit and soul.

He will do it;
He will surely do it,
He does all things well.
Why are you cast down,
O my soul?
He does all things well.

These things I remember as I pour out my soul;
Why, O God, do you hide?
Come, Spirit, come.

Give me voice to praise you–
How I long to praise you!

He will do it;
He will surely do it,
He does all things well.
Why are you cast down,
O my soul?
He does all things well.

He does all things well!

Side Note (mostly for those who also play the ukulele)

If you play the ukulele too, you’ll be able to tell that I’m still struggling with some chord changes. B minor is the bane of my existence; really, all barre chords drive me crazy. I still don’t quite have the finger strength to play them well. I’ll keep practicing, and if you have any tips for me, please pass them along!

    Thank you, Hannah, for expressing these beautiful words in song. With so much unrest right now, they are very uplifting and encouraging, that God knows all things, does all things well, and will even make good come out of the pandemic and even the current racial uprising. There is much cause for fear and anxiety, but the only answer is God. Where else can we go?

      Thanks Mom! 🙂 Your comment made me think of John 6:68: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

    This is really pretty sis! Much needed words right now amidst the pandemic and all of the tragedies that are happening in the Twin Cities. May peace, justice and racial reconciliation come quickly.
