My Cleaning Schedule

I talked with a couple friends last night about how we take care of our homes. Each of us had different ideas about cleaning, but we all agreed on one thing: something doesn’t have to be spotless to be clean. We also agreed that sometimes cleaning should not receive the highest slot on our list of priorities. I enjoy hearing about how other people keep their homes tidy (and even how other people define the word), so I thought I’d share with you how I accomplish this somewhat daunting task.

We follow the same cleaning schedule every week, with a few deep-cleaning days thrown in as needed. Here’s what we do.

Daily: Dishes after every meal, sweep (except Sunday)

Monday: Wash sheets and/or towels, bake bread

Tuesday: Laundry

Wednesday: Laundry

Thursday: Laundry

Friday: Laundry

Saturday: Pick-up and vacuum, clean bathroom

Sunday: Rest

Our deep-cleaning tasks include steam-mopping the floors, washing the windows, and dusting. (I don’t like dusting, so I often overlook this duty! You could draw an elaborate picture in some of the hidden shelves in my home.) Sometimes when I sweep I walk around with a Norwex kitchen cloth, cleaning spills and sticky spots as I go. I like having a small list of daily duties so at the end of the day I can rest knowing I finished what needed to be done.

How do you keep your home clean? Do you have any advice for us?
