Only Our Redeemer Saves {New Music Monday}

Dear friends,

I don’t normally post about my political views or my opinions of current issues in our society. I don’t really feel like writing social or political commentary is something God gave me the gift to do. Other authors of books, articles, and blogs write about current events very well–much better than I ever could–and I prefer to leave the writing to them.

This won’t surprise any of you, but I do like to write music about current events. Writing lyrics and music helps me process through how I feel and often reminds me of God’s faithfulness. The following song is the closest you will ever get to hearing my opinions about politics and society-at-large on this blog. If you would like to know more about my opinions, we can talk in person (if you know me through something other than my website) or we can email over the ever-growing internets.

I truly believe what the tag says: “Only our Redeemer saves.” No political affiliation, no church affiliation, no social status, ideologies, or labels can save you. Our hope rests solely in the gospel of Jesus Christ and His love for a hurting world.

Only Our Redeemer Saves

Only Our Redeemer Saves

“He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice, and to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

The voice of the Lord cries aloud,
In wisdom let us seek him out. [1]
Pray for healing; praying for peace.
Only our Redeemer saves,
Only our Redeemer saves!

When he comes, we’ll all change
In the twinkling of an eye. [2]
Until then, until then–

“He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice, and to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?”

May justice rule in every move,
And mercy beat in every heart.
May a humble spirit teach us that
Only our Redeemer saves,
Only our Redeemer saves!
