The Long Road to Happiness
Almost twenty months ago, a beautiful baby entered the world. From the very beginning this beautiful baby brought joy into a full household. She smiled early at four weeks old and laughed for the first time at six weeks. Music lights up her heart, as do spinning in circles with her dad and telling her attentive mom about her world. Her path to happiness as a lively toddler was short and sweet. This mom’s path has been anything but short and sweet. Almost twenty months ago, my world became a dark, somber place. Light entered in through the cracks, but seemed weak and filtered. Colors didn’t shine with their true…

Classical Conversations: Cycle 1, Week 13
This post is all about homeschooling! We homeschool through an organization called Classical Conversations. (If you’re never heard of Classical Conversations, you can read more here.) Classical education differs from modern education in many ways, the most prominent being the focus on memory work (grammar) over trying to fit all the parts of a subject together all at once. Classical education builds on itself, similar to a spiral curriculum. You learn the very basics the first time around, then build on those basics as you continue to grow and study. Students in the Foundations program (preschool through sixth grade) learn the same material, which is an immense help to families.…

The Good, the Bad, and the Confused
Please don’t be worried by the title of this post–I’m not implying that you can be neutral to the gospel! God requires those He calls to leadership in the church to live in a way that is above reproach. The Bible tells us that God will hold these leaders accountable for their actions and whether or not they shepherded their flocks in a way that reflects Christ’s love for His church. I struggle when I find out one of these leaders betrayed his congregation (and other listeners through writing or another avenue) by behaving in a way that is not above reproach. My tendency is to forget about the good…

The Wolf Shall Dwell with the Lamb
The following quotes are two of my favorites quotes from N.D. Wilson. Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl and Death by Living are two of the strangest books I’ve ever read, but two of the best. If you like philosophy, stories, and humor, I highly recommend both of these excellent books to you! Do not resent your place in the story. Do not imagine yourself elsewhere. Do not close your eyes and picture a world without thorns, without shadows, without hawks. Change this world. Use your body like a tool meant to be used up, discarded, and replaced. Better every life you touch. We will reach the final chapter. When we have…

New Year’s Resolution 2019
Happy 2019! Can you believe we’ve almost reached 2020?! One century ago, most people still did daily work by hand, nobody used computers, and TV had not been invented yet. The radio brought news instead of the internet, and people danced the night away instead of watching Netflix. What a comforting thing it is that God planned exactly how our culture would change in such a brief period of time! If you’ve followed my writing for even just a few years, you’ll know that every year I make at least one New Year’s Resolution. I do this because I like to set clear goals to work toward; I don’t do…
